There are so many DJ’s and DJ Services in the Toronto and surrounding area, what sets JD DJ Services aside from the rest?
Jerry Daniel: “JD DJ Services is not a big company that hires 20 different DJ’s to send to 20 different events, leaving the customer hoping that they get an actual DJ that knows what they are doing, these big services supply the music and the equipment to these guys and send them out on the road, all too many times I have gone to events and witnessed firsthand a DJ that doesn’t even know what music he has as its not his, the music and the equipment belongs to the service, kind of hard to take requests when you don’t even know what you have! When people hire JD DJ Services they get me, a DJ with 20 years of experience and all his own music and equipment”
After calling around and pricing other DJ’s and DJ Services why is it that you are able to offer much better pricing then most of the others I have called, do you not have the same overhead costs as the rest?
Jerry Daniel: “Absolutely I have the same overhead costs, just not as much of it, large services have to charge a lot as they have more people to pay, when you phone they have to pay the person that answers the phone etc… well when you call JD DJ Services it’s me Jerry Daniel that takes the call or calls you back or responds to your email questions, I don’t have to pay someone to do that for me. Large Services have to keep ample DJ sound systems and music libraries on hand so that they can all be in different places at the same time, well if all the DJ’s and DJ systems don’t get booked for an evening who covers the cost of that expensive system and music library? That’s right the next person that phones the Service. I have one system, and a backup system as well as 2 libraries to pay for not 20 of each.
One thing I hate to see is young couples set out to get married and end up paying $1000’s towards a DJ Service that at the end of the night far too often was not worth the $$$ they dished out, well I don’t believe in that, for me it’s not about $$$ it’s about celebrating and having a good time with people and helping them celebrate their union together.”
How do you know so much music from so many different generations?
Jerry Daniel: “Simple when most DJ’s are not working what music do they listen too? When they are driving along in their car’s what radio stations do they have tuned in on their dial? You would find out that 90% listen to top 40 music; whether it is Hip Hop, Dance, or Modern Rock, they wouldn’t be caught dead listening to the music they play at events. Well I would and I do I drive along listening to everything blaring out my window from Elvis to the Bee Gees to Madonna to Rhianna, I truly listen to everything all the time. I would get bored listening to the same type of music all the time.”
Some of the music you play is well beyond your generation how do you know it?
Jerry Daniel: “Well my family on my mother’s side is a very large family (9 brothers & sisters) and they spent years celebrating pretty much any event possible. There was always music blaring and people dancing. There were huge parties at Christmas time and a few Epic Halloween Parties as well as corn roasts, weddings and many many other events, no matter what they celebrated, and every time either one of my 2 uncles that were DJ’s were spinning tunes from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s, I guess after all those parties, listening and dancing to all that music it was bound to stick with me years later and I am grateful for it!!!”
